Calling the Snow

by Geordie Ingerson

When you would have snow under your skis, and the mountainsides remain bare, you may ask Ullr the Winter Lord to bring the snow. Find an old pair of skis that is worn out, or perhaps an old broken sled, or both. Lay a fire and set them alight. Call out to Ullr thus:

snowshoesLord of Winter, Bow-bearing God,

Bring the blanket white to wear

On frozen fields, to slip your skis on!

Send us snowflakes by the thousands,

Send us sweep and whirl and drift,

That we might follow in your foot-tracks

All the way from peak to valley.
