For Sunna

by Crystal Eisenhour

You peak over mountain tops,

Dip into the sea,

Racing across the sky,

I feel you on me

Greeting me every morning,

Leaving every night

O Sunna, O Sol,

Goddess of sunlight

And warmth to behold.

O Sunna, O Sol,

Driver of light,

Warding off the cold.

You feed our crops

With loving light,

Yet burn them

When you are too bright.

Giving laughter-filled days

And warm loving nights,

You burn our skin if foolishly

We are found lost in your kiss.

O Sunna, O Sol,

Goddess of sunlight

And warmth to behold.

O Sunna, O Sol,

Driver of light,

Power to end us all.

Golden hooves know their course

High in the summer sky,

Your light we feel around us

As summer flies by.

Daylight starts to melt away,

Your course more southern turns.

O Sunna, O Sol,

Goddess of sunlight

And warmth to behold.

O Sunna, O Sol,

Driver of light,

Please don’t leave us cold.

Winter’s frost bites our skin

As southward you roam,

Your warmth grows distant

Through darker nights alone,

Left only with promises

And memories of your rays.

Shine in me through winter’s cold

When my soul needs your embrace.

O Sunna, O Sol,

Goddess of sunlight

And warmth to behold.

O Sunna, O Sol,

Driver of light,

Promised warmth in the cold.

O Sunna, O Sol,

Teach me the cycle

To balance warmth and cold.

O Sunna, O Sol,

Goddess of sunlight

And warmth to behold.

O Sunna, O Sol,

Driver of light,

Through your consistency

You consistently change.
