A Prayer to Mani on the Early Nights of the Year

by December Fields-Bryant

Hail Mani,Man in the Moon
Gracious and Beautiful,
Please smile upon us
Silvery, shining, Cheshire grinning,
And we recall
The manic joy of dancing beneath Your gaze.
Hail Sky Wanderer,
Wolf-Fleeing
Beacon in the Night, Light in the Dark
Many phased, many moods
You know the keening wails of your Night Children
And their songs whispered in the shadows.
Hail Savior of Hjuki and Bil
Who knows the pains
Of children unseen,
Of voices unheard,
Of wailing in the night
And silent song of tears.
Hail Sky Dancer,
You who shift and change
Veiled and naked,
Reveal the truth within us all
When we are ready
And encourage the cycle of rest
When we are not.
Hail Mani,
May You ever be praised!
