Iduna

Lady of the Orchard

Five Seeds

by Jack Roe

Idun by Thalia TookFive seeds in the center of the white

Round, like a starburst deep inside

A scarlet planet. Hear my count.

One for the spring rains that awaken

The tree to its budding. Hail, Water,

Iduna awaits you. One for the Sun's fire

That stretches the limbs skyward, unfurls

Each tender leaf. Hail, Fire of the Sky,

Iduna awaits you. One for the chill winds

Carrying golden dust from tree to tree,

A love story told in each angular grain

And the buzzing wings of bees. Hail, Air,

Iduna awaits you. One for the dark soil

Between the toes of each tree, curling

Into deeper wisdom. Hail, Earth,

Iduna awaits you. One for spirit moving

Through her hands, into each bending,

Rustling soul, each singing child encased

In bark and promise. Hail to Life itself,

Iduna awaits your fivefold promise

Unfurling in her soul.
