Invocation to Andvari

by Galina Krasskova

It is in the richness of the dark earth that You are found;

in the quiet solitude and unyielding resilience

Of the most unspoiled of woods.

Your presence beckons: dense as stone, unchanging as the mountain,

Rich as gold.

You are magnificent in a way that does not require attendance.

Your wisdom is manifold and its ways essential.

The luck You bestow is steady and resilient.

It does not depend upon the whims of fate

But upon one’s own resources,

Conscience of character, and mindful attention to waste.

Having been commended into Your guidance,

I find that I am becoming a better person.

I am learning to live more rightly and well

Within the cluttered, noisy expanse of Midgard.

I am learning to care about those small, seemingly insignificant things

That form the essential foundations of right action.

You have taught me to plumb unceasingly, the rich earth of my being

And to find within, in the deepest recesses, buried treasures.

I will praise You always, Andvari,

And hold Your lessons close to my heart.
